In ICT and Geography, we have been researching different places as well as writing about our community.
Groups of 3 collaborated to prepare the letter, write about Tanfield Lea and research our partner school's area Tonight, classpal letters have been sent; which school will reply first? Letters are also being prepared for Indonesia, Taiwan and some other schools.... Don't forget to use your Oddizzi login to find out more about the wonderful world we live in! What a coincidence! One of our partner schools, Wellford, have started blogging. If I'm not wrong, they are in 4th Grade.
It would be great if some of us could head over there and leave some blog comments: Don't forget 2 stars and a wish! We can make friends thousands of miles away through leaving positive comments. Click here for the link. Also, don't forget to leave our website address so they can come back and visit us. We have been busy in class focussing on SATs, but it was lovely to hear from our Classpals in Indonesia, who have been learning about Disasters (as we did last term), and Nepal, where they are about to begin a new school year.
We will reply soon...... Our Letter from Indonesia Dear Year 6 Sorry for replying late. What are you learning now? Here, grade 5 students are learning about disasters in Bahasa Indonesia, English, and UOI lessons. In Bahasa Indonesia lessons, we're divided into groups. Each group contains 3 or 4 students. Each group chose one kind of disaster. We will make videos that tell about the disaster and how we respond to it. In UOI, we learn how we should respond to the disaster. Each of us will tell the information in a presentation. Each of us will present in different way. There will be PowerPoint presentation, Prezi, etc. In English lesson, we're divided into pairs. Each pair will choose the topic from a list the teacher gave. And then we make persuasive writing and persuasive speech. That's all from me, don't forget to reply. ^_^ Marsha From: 5 Musi Sekolah Victory Plus, Bekasi, Indonesia Our letter from Nepal Dear Year 6 We are also waiting ... the school reopens for the new session on Sunday .... Don't know who all will be selected by the school to stay at Harsha Home ... Fingers crossed ... From: Harsha Girls Harsha Home, Kathmandu, Nepal Wow! Our classpals have been busy!
Below are letters from Taiwan, Indonesia and Nepal. We've also been getting emails from our friend in Wellford Academy, USA. Letter from Indonesia Dear Year 6 Hello! My name is Ms. Yani, I am one of the homeroom teachers of grade 5 Musi at Sekolah Victory Plus, Bekasi, Indonesia. Thank you for accepting my ClassPals request! Letters from Taiwan Dear friends, Here are some of the answers you asked us. 1. What is it like in Taiwan? The weather here is very warm, sunny and wet. The people here are friendly and passionate.Taiwan abounds in fresh, sweet tropic fruit. And there is no lack of beautiful seceneries, for example, beautiful beaches in Kenting, and the Taroko Gorge in Hualien . But I think that the most special thing for you is the night market. We often go out with family or friends after dinner, and night market is a good place for people who want to relax after a working or school day. Good snack, games, and drinks, you can have a lot fun in there. 2. What's the name of your school? The name of my school is Kaohsiung Municipal Fo-Gong Elementary School. 3.What's your favorite subject in school? My favorite subject is English. Because we always sing and dance in the class, that's funny! 4. What's the most commen pet in your country? Dogs and cats are popular. There is a Cultural Center in Kaohsiung, many people will walk their dogs there and enjoy a beautiful afternoon. 5. What type of music do you listen to? I listen to pop music of Taiwan like Jay Chou, Jolin Tsai and May Day. I listen to K-pop music, too. Girls' Generation, Super Junior, CNBLUE. 6. What kinds of things do you celebrate? We celebrate the Chinese New Year in January or February. We gather around the table to eat Lunar New Year's Eve dinner, and children receive red envelopes from their parents. And paste spring couplets on the gateposts. 7.What's your culture like? Taiwanese culture is a culture of mixed Confucian culture, Japan, Europe and the United States.Roughly divided in aboriginal Culture, Hakka culture, and Han culture. In recent years, Taiwan has increased a number of foreign brides from Southeast Asia, these new immigrants bring some new culture. 8.What do you do for your Hobbies? I enjoy watching TV, listening to music, painting and playing basketball with my friends. 9. What have you been learning about? In Taiwan, we have to learn many things. Math, Chinese, and mother tongue, I have been learning from one grade. Science, History, Geography, Civics, and English, I have been learning from third grade. 10. Do you know any facts about World War II which we have been learning about? Comparing with the part of Europe, I think that I know more about China and Japan's wars. I think that If WWII had never happened, Taiwan might have been a part of China today and the leader of China might were not the communists. Of course, mentioned above is just my guess. As everyone knows, the US dropped the atomic bomb in Hiroshima and Nagasaki , and that brought an end to WWII. Japanese paid the price for their ambition. But my opinion is that war is cruel and uncivilized, so we should use more wise way to solve problems. Thanks for all the questions, we had fun answering them. The way we say goodbye is "zai jian(?A??) "and it means "see you", or just say "bye bye". Zai jian! Yours Sincerely, Ming-shuang (Linlin's student) From: G6, Fo Gong Elementary School, Chen-Jeng, Taiwan Letters from Nepal Dear Year 6 Hello ClassPals, We are now getting ready for our final examinations - third week of March. Some of us from class 5, 6 and 7 had an opportunity to go to a photo exhibition. It was our first time to go to such an event. The exhibition was entitled "EVERYDAY EPIPHANIES: A Nepal Retrospective 1994-2012", Photographs by Frédéric Lecloux / Vu’ Agency at the ALLIANCE FRANÇAISE OF KATHMANDU. Also, we received your questions but we are here to ask you some questions! 1. What is it like in Taiwan? 2. What's the name of your school? 3.Whats your favourite subject in school? 4. What's the most commen pet in your country? 5. What type of music do you listen to? 6. What kinds of things do you celebrate? 7.Whats your culture like? 8.What do you do for your Hobbies? 9. What have you been learning about? 10. Do you know any facts about World War II which we have been learning about? I am going to tell you about our amazing school. We have 9 classes, 2 reception classes and one class in each year group 1 to 6. We have many different after school clubs such as street dance, craft club, multi sports, football, choir, garden club, homework. All children throughout the school can attend a club for a small charge. Our head teacher is called Miss Hemmings but she is currently working with a different school, so our deputy head covers, she is called Mrs Northcott - whats your headteacher called? The reception teachers are Mrs Hunter and Mrs Geech. Mrs Geech is new to our school she only recently joined in september . Our year 1 teacher is Mrs Northcott and our year 2 teacher is called Mrs Penna. The teachers from year 3 up to 6 are called Mrs Davis,Miss Brown, Mrs Raper and Mr Temple. What are the teachers called in your school called? How many classes do you have in your entire school? We also thought you would like to know about the area where we live. Stanley is a former colliery town (this is where men and boys a long time ago would work underground collecting coal for fuel). There are about 16,200 people living in our town at the moment. The children in the area go to a range of schools they don't all come to our school - can you imagine how big our school would have to be if they all came to Tanfield Lea. Stanley means stoney field in old english. In Stanley we have a range of shops such as ASDA which is a food shop, Boots which is a chemist, Peters and Greggs which are both bakeries, some banks, travelagents,a police station, and a post office. It would be great if you would send some information about where you live. Goodbye (how do you say goodbye?) From Daniel, Ella, Aaron, Olivia, Sophie and Caitlin. Since our homework about World War II, visitors from 2 new countries have visited us. No doubt it was to read your superb writing!
The countries' flags have the letters: MY and KH in the Flag Counters at the bottom. 2 team points for each country correctly identified. Ultimate challenge: 30 countries have now visited our site. A reward will go to someone who can identify all 30! Don't forget to use Oddizzi to help you (the login and password should be in your Organiser). Here are the lovely pictures from our partner school, Fo Gong Elementary School, which they sent us in July. They have terrific artistic talent and some really good questions. They even asked about our weather this summer - perhaps we shouldn't answer that one as it has been very very wet! Which is your favourite question?
We look forward to communicating with Fo Gong and other schools around the world throughout this year. Fantastic work, Ms. Linlin and all of your class. Well done for getting international visitors to your site:
Charlotte has had Canadians and American visitors! Jade and Luke have had several Americans. Shannon Jo has a new flag: Do you know which country it is? Lewis Watson has had British visitors mostly; however, because he has put Flag Counters on his Blog, there are 3 countries represented! Can you name the blue, red and white flag? (Hint: it's European but not French!) TIPS: 1. Follow Lewis and insert the Flag Counters HTML code on EVERY page of your site. That way you can see which of your pages are most popular! 2. Use your blog regularly; that way you will get repeat visitors (people who keep coming back to see your news / writing). Like any newspaper, a website is judged by how many visitors you get; keep writing to keep your readers interested! Don't forget to let me know if you have new flags appear! Well done for all your contributions over the last few weeks, especially the Year 3s who have joined us.
We now have 2 new flags from international visitors. Can you work out which ones they are? Team points for correct answers! This week's 100WC is to think about a time when you have done something really challenging. Different activities are challenging to different people. We have recently had sports day (but don't write about it again if you already have), and are preparing for a drama performance. This year, some of us have also participated in Howtown, the Talent Show and other activities. When you write, think about the following:
